Job Description – Senior Chemist (Lube Oil & Petrochemical Testing)Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct routine analysis and testing of lubricating oils, base oils, greases, fuels, and petrochemical products.
- Perform laboratory testing as per ASTM, IP, BIS, and ISO standards.
- Handle and operate laboratory instruments such as:
- Viscometer
- Flash Point Apparatus
- Pour Point Apparatus
- Distillation Unit
- Karl Fischer Moisture Titrator
- GC/GCMS
- FTIR
- Density Meter
- Spectrophotometer
- Conduct testing parameters including:
- Viscosity
- Flash Point
- Pour Point
- Density
- Moisture Content
- TAN/TBN
- Ash Content
- Sulphur Analysis
- Carbon Residue
- Copper Corrosion
- Water Content
- Ensure proper sample collection, labeling, storage, and retention as per laboratory procedures.
- Maintain calibration records, testing logs, and quality documentation accurately.
- Prepare Certificate of Analysis (COA) and laboratory test reports.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, NABL guidelines, laboratory quality systems, and safety procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and housekeeping of laboratory equipment and work area.
- Coordinate with production, operations, and quality departments for testing requirements and process improvements.
- Monitor inventory of laboratory chemicals, glassware, and consumables.
- Follow all safety guidelines while handling chemicals, petroleum products, and hazardous materials.
- Support internal audits, external inspections, and customer sample analysis requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality of company data, test results, formulations, and technical information.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Only M.Sc. in Chemistry / Organic Chemistry
- Minimum 7 years of experience in Lube Oil / Petroleum / Petrochemical Testing Laboratory
- Experience in NABL accredited laboratory is mandatory
- Strong knowledge of ASTM, IP, BIS and ISO testing methods
- Hands-on experience with petroleum and petrochemical testing instruments
- Knowledge of NABL documentation, calibration, audit compliance and quality systems
- Good documentation, reporting and team handling skills
