Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Junior New Product Development (NPD) Engineer with 3–4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will support the development and introduction of new products by working closely with design, production, quality, procurement, and customers to ensure products are developed, validated, and launched on time while meeting quality, cost, and performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support new product development activities from concept through production launch.
- Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical documentation.
- Coordinate prototype development, testing, and product validation activities.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth product introduction into manufacturing.
- Assist in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
- Participate in product design reviews and engineering change management (ECR/ECO).
- Coordinate with suppliers for sample development, material selection, and component qualification.
- Support process validation, pilot production, and first article inspections (FAI).
- Identify design and process issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, company standards, and applicable quality requirements.
- Assist in cost reduction, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare project status updates and maintain development schedules.
- Support documentation for APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and validation reports where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–4 years of experience in new product development or product engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of product development processes and manufacturing methods.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
- Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, and engineering change processes.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, fabrication, casting, injection molding, or assembly (as applicable).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts.
- Experience with ERP and PLM systems.
- Familiarity with project management tools.
- Exposure to prototype development and product testing.
- Understanding of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 (where applicable).
