QC Head – Roles and Responsibilities (Jewelry Industry)
1. Quality Management
- Develop and implement quality control policies and procedures.
- Establish quality standards for gold, silver, diamond, gemstone, and finished jewelry.
- Ensure compliance with national and international quality standards.
2. Incoming Material Inspection
- Verify the purity and quality of precious metals.
- Inspect diamonds and gemstones for authenticity, grading, and quality.
- Approve or reject raw materials based on specifications.
3. Process Quality Control
- Monitor quality throughout manufacturing stages, including:
- Casting
- CNC/Wax Making
- Filing and Assembly
- Stone Setting
- Polishing
- Rhodium Plating
- Laser Soldering
- Final Finishing
- Conduct in-process inspections to prevent defects.
4. Final Product Inspection
- Ensure jewelry meets approved design specifications.
- Check:
- Dimensions and weight
- Metal purity
- Stone security
- Surface finish
- Polish quality
- Hallmark accuracy
- Product functionality (locks, hinges, clasps)
5. Defect Analysis
- Identify recurring quality issues.
- Perform root cause analysis.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Reduce rejection and rework rates.
6. Team Leadership
- Lead and supervise QC inspectors and quality engineers.
- Assign inspection responsibilities.
- Train employees on quality standards and inspection techniques.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
7. Vendor Quality Assurance
- Evaluate supplier quality performance.
- Conduct supplier audits.
- Monitor incoming material quality.
- Coordinate corrective actions with vendors.
8. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain inspection reports and quality records.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
- Track key quality metrics such as:
- Rejection rate
- Rework percentage
- Customer complaints
- First Pass Yield (FPY)
- Defect trends
9. Customer Complaint Handling
- Investigate customer complaints.
- Coordinate with production and sales teams.
- Ensure timely resolution.
- Implement preventive measures to avoid repeat issues.
10. Compliance & Certification
- Ensure compliance with:
- Hallmarking regulations
- Export quality standards
- Customer specifications
- Health and safety requirements
- Support internal and external quality audits.
11. Continuous Improvement
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen initiatives.
- Improve inspection processes.
- Reduce manufacturing defects and waste.
- Enhance overall product quality and customer satisfaction.
12. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with:
- Production
- Design
- Merchandising
- Procurement
- Sales
- Logistics
- Ensure quality requirements are integrated across departments.
Key Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of jewelry manufacturing processes.
- Expertise in gold, diamond, and gemstone quality standards.
