School Nurse – Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide first aid and immediate medical care to students and staff during illness or injuries.
- Maintain students’ health records, medical histories, and vaccination details.
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, or epilepsy.
- Administer prescribed medications to students as per school policy and parental consent.
- Conduct regular health check-ups, screenings, and hygiene inspections.
- Handle medical emergencies and coordinate with hospitals, parents, and emergency services when required.
- Educate students on personal hygiene, nutrition, health, and safety practices.
- Maintain the school infirmary/medical room with proper medical supplies and equipment.
- Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and infection-control practices within the school premises.
- Support students’ physical and emotional well-being and provide basic counselling when needed.
- Prepare accident/incident reports and maintain proper documentation of medical cases.
- Coordinate health awareness programs, vaccination drives, and wellness campaigns.
- Assist during school events, sports activities, excursions, and field trips for medical support.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding students’ health concerns or medical requirements.
- Ensure compliance with school health policies, safety regulations, and government guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and counsellors to support student welfare.
- Monitor student absenteeism related to health issues and follow up when necessary.
- Train staff and students on basic first aid, emergency response, and safety procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of student medical information at all times.
- Perform any other healthcare-related duties assigned by the school management.
