Job Summary.
We are looking for an experienced CNC Setter Cum Programmer to program, set up, and optimize CNC machines for the production of precision-machined components. The candidate should be capable of reading engineering drawings, selecting tooling, proving out programs, maintaining dimensional accuracy, and supporting continuous improvement in productivity and quality.
Key ResponsibilitiesProgramming
- Create and edit CNC programs using G-code .
- Optimize machining programs to reduce cycle time while maintaining quality.
- Develop programs for new components and modify existing programs as required.
- Verify programs before production to ensure safe and efficient machining.
Machine Setting
- Set up CNC Turning and/or CNC Machining Centers according to production requirements.
- Install and align fixtures, jaws, tooling, and workholding devices.
- Set tool offsets, work offsets, and machine parameters.
- Conduct first-off inspections and obtain approval before mass production.
Production
- Achieve production targets while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor machining operations and make process adjustments when necessary.
- Minimize setup time and machine downtime.
- Ensure proper utilization of cutting tools and machine resources.
Quality Control
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and process sheets.
- Measure components using micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, dial indicators, and other precision instruments.
- Ensure components meet specified tolerances and customer requirements.
- Record inspection results and maintain quality documentation.
Tooling
- Select suitable cutting tools and inserts based on material and machining requirements.
- Monitor tool wear and replace tools as needed.
- Recommend improvements in tooling and machining methods to improve productivity.
Machine Maintenance
- Perform daily machine checks and routine preventive maintenance.
- Maintain coolant levels and lubrication systems.
- Report machine abnormalities or breakdowns promptly.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow company safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S practices.
- Ensure safe operation of machines and handling of materials.
Qualifications
- Diploma / ITI in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die, Machinist, or a related trade.
- 3–8 years of experience in CNC programming and machine setting.
- Experience with CNC Turning Centers and/or Vertical Machining Centers (VMC).
- Knowledge of FANUC, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or Haas CNC controls.
Technical Skills
- CNC program creation and editing (G-code/M-code).
- CNC machine setup and proving.
- Engineering drawing interpretation.
- GD&T knowledge.
- Tool selection and cutting parameter optimization.
- Process improvement and cycle time reduction.
- First Article Inspection (FAI).
- Knowledge of machining materials such as Mild Steel, Alloy Steel, Stainless Steel, Cast Iron, Aluminium, Brass, and Engineering Plastics.
