Job Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented QA / BI Testing Engineer to ensure the quality, accuracy, and reliability of our Business Intelligence solutions. The role involves validating data pipelines, ETL processes, data warehouses, reports, and dashboards to ensure high-quality data delivery for business decision-making.
The ideal candidate should have strong SQL skills, experience in ETL testing, and a good understanding of BI systems and data warehousing concepts.
Key ResponsibilitiesTesting & Quality Assurance
- Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for BI applications including data warehouses, ETL pipelines, reports, and dashboards
- Perform functional, regression, integration, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Validate data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across source, staging, and target systems
- Test ETL processes to ensure correct data extraction, transformation, and loading based on business rules
- Identify, document, and track defects using issue tracking tools
- Support root cause analysis and verify defect fixes
Data Validation
- Write SQL queries to validate data transformations and reconcile source vs target data
- Verify data quality metrics such as accuracy, consistency, and timeliness
- Perform volume and performance testing on large datasets
- Validate calculations, aggregations, and business logic in BI reports and dashboards
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with data engineers, BI developers, business analysts, and stakeholders
- Participate in requirement review sessions to define testing scope and strategy
- Maintain detailed test documentation including test plans, execution results, and reports
- Prepare test summary reports with metrics such as coverage, defect density, and pass/fail status
- Communicate testing status and results clearly to project teams
Required Skills & QualificationsTechnical Skills
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data validation and transformation testing
- Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL
- Understanding of ETL tools and processes (Informatica, Talend, Apache Airflow, or similar)
- Hands-on experience in ETL testing and data warehouse validation
- Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or QlikView
- Experience with test management tools like Jira, HP ALM, TestRail, or Azure DevOps
- Strong understanding of data warehouse concepts (fact tables, dimension tables, SCDs)
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git/SVN) is a plus
