Role Overview
The Captain is a senior front-of-house role responsible for overseeing service on the floor, leading a team of servers/stewards, and ensuring guests receive attentive, high-quality service from seating to checkout. This role acts as a bridge between the service team, kitchen, and management, and is key to maintaining consistent service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and seat guests, and oversee smooth table allocation during busy periods
- Lead, guide, and supervise servers/stewards during each shift, assigning tables/sections and ensuring workload is balanced
- Take orders for larger or VIP tables personally, and assist with menu recommendations, pairings, and upselling
- Ensure orders are communicated accurately and promptly to the kitchen and served within expected timeframes
- Monitor table service standards — proper greeting, order-taking, serving sequence, clearing, and billing — and correct lapses in real time
- Handle guest feedback, special requests, and complaints with professionalism, escalating to the Manager when needed
- Conduct regular floor walks to check table cleanliness, ambience, and overall guest comfort
- Coordinate with the kitchen and counter team on order timing, product availability, and special requests
- Train and mentor junior servers/stewards on service etiquette, product knowledge, and hygiene standards
- Ensure proper table settings, cleanliness, and stock (napkins, condiments, menus) before and during service
- Assist with billing accuracy, payment processing, and reconciliation at the end of shift
- Support opening/closing checklists and ensure the floor is guest-ready at all times
- Uphold food safety and hygiene standards across the front-of-house area
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in a similar Captain, Senior Server, or Team Lead role in a cafe/restaurant setting
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a guest-first attitude
- Ability to stay composed and organized during high-pressure, high-volume shifts
- Good product knowledge (or willingness to learn) of the cafe's menu, including allergens and dietary options
- Basic understanding of POS systems and billing processes
- Well-groomed, professional appearance and demeanor
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and shift-based hours
Nice to Have
- Experience training or mentoring junior staff
- Familiarity with reservation/table management systems
- Basic barista or F&B service certification
Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹23,000.00 per month
