At the Foundation, we make multi-year grants to not-for-profit organisations (referred to as partner organisations) that work with the most vulnerable in our society. Our work with partner organisations is across a range of areas namely - gender justice, children, disability, constitutional values, land water forest, urban initiatives, strengthening civil societies etc. Through our grants we support our partners to undertake a range of initiatives, from directly engaging with marginalized communities to helping improve delivery of public systems.
About the role
Santhal Pargana of Jharkhand is a geography of focus, covering the districts of Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, and Sahibganj.
We are looking for candidates who have a strong understanding of regional and community-level issues along with extensive experience of working in similar contexts. Fluency in local languages and a willingness to be based in the region are essential for this role. Understanding of issues pertaining to Jharkhand, particularly Santhal Pargana, will be preferable.
Responsibilities
- Conduct scoping and due diligence of organisations.
- Review all completed proposals to ensure that required information has been provided. Ensure that the story of the organisations come through clearly.
- Dialogue with the partner organisation to understand effects of their engagement.
- Guide the organisations in budget preparation and review the final budget proposal. Work with finance team on financial due diligence where required.
- Lead the grant making process for the assigned organisations and ensure compliance with the Foundation’s guidelines and requirements.
- Once the grant is made, visit the partner organisation at regular intervals to review progress and discuss any grant related support that may be necessary. Document observations after each visit and share the consolidated assessment towards the end of the grant period to guide renewal decision.
What we are looking for
- Strong understanding of at least 2 themes from among - rural livelihoods, water, disability, gender, health, tribal, urban issues, children. Direct/on-the-ground operating experience in engaging with these issues is an advantage.
- Experience of engaging with vulnerable communities across rural, tribal, urban settings preferred. Familiarity with issues in Jharkhand, especially the Santhal Pargana region will be an added advantage.
- Experience in grant making and management, programme budgeting, and monitoring will be useful
- Substantial knowledge of organizational and project management including documentation skills
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree desirable
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in the sector
- Willingness to travel extensively for work
- High level of self-motivation and initiative along with ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to speak in local language is preferred
