About the Role
We are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Cost Control Engineer with specialized experience in the steel manufacturing, rolling mills, or heavy engineering sector. In this role, you will act as the financial and operational guardian of our production processes and capital projects. You will be responsible for monitoring production costs, managing Bills of Materials (BOMs), tracking capital expenditures (CapEx), performing variance analyses, and driving cost-optimization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Develop, track, and manage operational budgets, manufacturing cost centers, and capital project budgets.
- Standard Costing & BOM Management: Maintain and review accurate standard costs, scrap rates, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for raw materials (scrap, DRI, pig iron, ferroalloys) and finished steel products.
- Variance & Profitability Analysis: Conduct deep-dive variance analyses comparing actual production costs against standard costs (covering raw material yields, heavy energy/power consumption, consumables, and labor). Identify root causes for cost overruns.
- Process Efficiency & Cost Optimization: Partner closely with plant operations, metallurgy, and maintenance teams to identify cost-reduction opportunities, minimize metal loss, and optimize energy/utility efficiency.
- Project Cost Control (CapEx & Turnarounds): Monitor large-scale plant upgrades, modernization projects, and furnace turnarounds. Track commitments, actual spend, and forecast cost-to-completion.
- Reporting & Forecasting: Generate weekly/monthly cost performance reports, Cost-Value Reconciliations (CVR), and Management Information Systems (MIS) dashboards for senior leadership.
- Inventory & Valuation Control: Monitor raw material and finished goods inventory holding costs, movement, and valuation within the ERP system.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in CIVIL/Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related technical discipline (A dual background or MBA in Finance/Costing is a strong advantage).
- Experience: [6 to 10] years of proven experience in cost control, cost engineering, or plant controlling within a heavy manufacturing, steel plant, or metal processing industry.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong command over ERP systems (e.g., SAP CO/MM/PP modules) or specialized cost-tracking software.
- Advanced data analysis skills with expert-level proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, modeling, macros).
- Deep understanding of steelmaking processes (EAF/BOF, Continuous Casting, Rolling Mills) and operational cost drivers (power intensity, electrode consumption, scrap yields).
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical mindset with sharp attention to detail.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills to work effectively with plant floor engineers and finance teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight financial closing deadlines.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary package.
- Comprehensive medical, life insurance, and statutory benefits.
- Opportunity to work on large-scale metallurgical operations and modern technology upgrades.
- Clear pathways for career growth into Senior Controlling or Plant Management roles.
