A Software Tester (Manual + Automation) at SA/APM level is responsible for:
- Ensuring end-to-end software quality
- Performing manual testing + automation testing
- Driving test strategy, execution, and quality metrics
- Supporting delivery governance and release management
This role is a hybrid QA + delivery role combining:
- Manual testing (functional + UX validation)
- Automation testing (efficiency + speed)
- Program coordination (APM responsibilities)

1. Manual Testing Responsibilities
Manual testing focuses on human-driven validation and user experience :
- Analyze requirements, user stories, and BRDs
- Create test cases, scenarios, checklists
- Perform:
- Functional testing
- UI/UX testing
- Exploratory & ad-hoc testing
- Validate business flows and user journeys
- Identify and log defects with proper steps and impact
- Perform regression testing manually (small scope)
2. Automation Testing Responsibilities
Automation testing focuses on speed, repeatability, and CI/CD integration :
- Identify test cases suitable for automation
- Develop automation scripts (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, etc.)
- Build and maintain automation frameworks
- Execute automated regression test suites
- Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Perform:
- API testing
- Performance testing
- Load testing
- Analyze automation results and maintain dashboards
3. Test Planning & Strategy (Senior Analyst Role)
- Define test strategy (manual + automation mix)
- Create test plans, timelines, and effort estimation
- Decide:
- What to automate vs what to test manually
- Ensure test coverage across modules
- Track test metrics (pass %, defect density, coverage)
- Participate in requirement reviews and risk analysis
- Contribute to quality standards and best practices
4. Delivery & Program Management (APM Role)
- Track testing progress vs sprint/release timelines
- Manage defect triage and prioritization
- Coordinate SIT, UAT, and production releases
- Monitor test execution dashboards and reports
- Ensure quality sign-off before releases
- Identify and mitigate project risks
- Support:
- Sprint planning
- Stand-ups
- Governance calls
5. Defect & Quality Management
- Log defects with clear steps, severity, and impact
Track defect lifecycle:
New Assigned Fixed Retested- Perform root cause analysis (RCA)
- Ensure zero leakage to production
- Maintain quality reports for stakeholders and audits
6. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with:
- Developers
- Product owners
- Business analysts
- Clients
- Translate business requirements test scenarios
- Provide quality insights & release readiness reports
- Act as QA SPOC for client communications
Technical Skills
