Position Overview
Optics & Allied Engg. Pvt. Ltd. is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Purchase Engineer to manage the procurement of engineering materials, precision components, optical components, electronic parts, mechanical items, fabrication materials, and subcontracting services. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical knowledge, vendor management skills, and experience in procurement for manufacturing or engineering organizations.
The role involves sourcing quality materials, negotiating commercial terms, ensuring timely deliveries, and coordinating with internal teams to support uninterrupted production and project execution.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & Sourcing
- Procure mechanical, electrical, electronic, optical, and fabrication materials as per approved purchase requisitions.
- Source precision machined components, optical components, raw materials, standard hardware, tools, and consumables.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new vendors to improve quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Obtain quotations from multiple vendors and perform technical and commercial evaluations.
Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contractual conditions.
- Conduct periodic vendor performance evaluations based on quality, cost, delivery, and service.
- Maintain an approved vendor database.
Purchase Order Management
- Prepare and release Purchase Orders (POs) as per company procedures.
- Track purchase orders from placement through delivery and coordinate with vendors for timely dispatch.
- Follow up on pending deliveries and expedite critical materials.
- Resolve supply issues, shortages, and vendor-related concerns.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production, Stores, Quality, Finance, and Project teams to understand procurement requirements.
- Ensure timely availability of materials to support manufacturing schedules and customer deliveries.
- Coordinate inspection and acceptance of incoming materials with the Quality team.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Monitor inventory levels and avoid stock shortages or excess inventory.
- Support cost reduction initiatives through alternate sourcing, value engineering, and supplier negotiations.
- Ensure procurement complies with approved budgets and cost targets.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain procurement records, quotations, purchase orders, vendor agreements, and supplier documentation.
- Prepare procurement MIS reports covering purchase status, pending orders, supplier performance, and cost savings.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, ISO 9001, AS9100, and applicable quality standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 3–6 years of experience in procurement or purchase engineering within manufacturing, engineering, aerospace, defense, optics, electronics, or precision engineering industries.
- Experience in sourcing engineering components, fabrication items, optical components, electronics, or custom-built parts.
