Financial Controller
Job Summary
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, effective internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and strategic financial planning. The role supports management in achieving business objectives by providing timely financial insights and maintaining strong financial governance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements.
- Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing activities.
2. Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads and executive management.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly forecasts based on business performance and market trends.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide explanations for deviations from budget.
- Monitor departmental expenditures and recommend corrective actions when required.
3. Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal control systems.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and audit requirements.
- Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Safeguard hotel assets through robust control measures and regular reviews.
4. Audit Management
- Coordinate and manage external audits, statutory audits, and tax audits.
- Prepare audit schedules and provide required documentation to auditors.
- Conduct periodic internal audits to assess operational and financial controls.
- Ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations.
5. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Monitor daily cash flow and maintain adequate liquidity for hotel operations.
- Manage banking relationships and oversee treasury functions.
- Optimize working capital through effective management of receivables, payables, and inventory.
- Review cash forecasts and recommend strategies for improved cash utilization.
6. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations, including GST, TDS, Professional Tax, PF, ESI, and Income Tax requirements.
- Coordinate with tax consultants and government authorities as necessary.
- Develop tax planning strategies to optimize tax efficiency while maintaining compliance.
- Ensure timely filing of statutory returns and payments.
7. Financial Analysis & Business Support
- Analyze financial data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends and opportunities.
- Prepare management reports and business performance dashboards.
- Develop financial models and feasibility studies for business initiatives and capital investments.
- Provide strategic financial recommendations to support decision-making.
8. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the finance and accounts team.
- Ensure timely completion of accounting and reporting activities.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
9. ERP & Financial Systems Management
- Oversee the effective utilization and optimization of ERP and financial management systems.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data within the system.
- Support implementation of new financial technologies and process improvements.
- Coordinate system integrations with operational departments.
10. Stakeholder Communication
- Present financial reports and analyses to the General Manager, Ownership, and Corporate Office.
- Support department heads with financial information and guidance.
- Participate in executive meetings and contribute to strategic planning discussions.
- Maintain strong relationships with auditors, bankers, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or related field.
- CA, CMA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Minimum 15-20 years of finance experience, with at least 5-8 years in a managerial role within the hospitality industry.
- Strong knowledge of hotel accounting systems, budgeting, taxation, and financial controls.
- Experience with hotel ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
