Nature of Vacancy: Replacement
Salary Range: ₹50,000 – ₹70,000 per month
Expected Date of Joining: Immediate / Within 30 days
Role Context
The Legal Executive supports litigation and legal operations for the group, working under the direction of the Company Secretary. The function currently manages ~15 active matters across regulatory commissions, civil courts, and arbitration. The role involves hands-on execution on cases, documentation management, and operational discipline in the legal function.
Key Responsibilities
1. Litigation Execution
Support the active case portfolio: organise documents, prepare case briefs, review pleadings, track hearing dates Coordinate with external counsel teams (typically counsel's assistants and juniors) on case logistics, document handover, and procedural steps Draft initial versions of petitions, replies, rejoinders, affidavits, and other litigation documents under senior direction; iterate based on feedback Attend hearings where required; prepare hearing notes and post-hearing debrief summaries Track procedural deadlines and flag upcoming requirements
2. Notice and Legal Correspondence Management
Track all legal notices received and dispatched; maintain strict response timelines
Draft initial responses to notices under senior direction Maintain records of all legal correspondence
3. Case Management System Operations
Own the case management system (Manupatra): ensure every active matter has complete documentation, sequenced chronology, and current status Drive digitization of legacy case files where pending; flag missing documents and coordinate retrieval Maintain the document trail for every matter — internal correspondence, counsel communications, hearing records Build and maintain the institutional case-context record
4. Counsel Coordination Support
Support maintenance of the counsel tracker (fees, performance, specialization)
Coordinate scheduling of strategy meetings, debriefs, and document reviews with external counsel Assist in counsel selection research as required
5. Growth Areas (12–24 month horizon)
Independent ownership of a subset of matters as competence is established
Direct interface with senior counsel on assigned matters Contribution to internal protocol-building for contract review and other legal workflows
Required Qualifications
LLB from a recognised university
5–7 years post-LLB experience typical, with prior in-house or law firm experience involving litigation support. Candidates with 3–5 years may be considered if from a strong background (NLU education, Tier 1–2 law firm experience, or established in-house team in regulated sectors)
Pure conveyancing or property-only backgrounds less suitable
Prior exposure to power, infrastructure, or regulated utilities sector strongly preferred (power preferred over infrastructure)
Familiarity with proceedings before electricity regulatory commissions (CERC, SERC, APTEL) is an advantage
Familiarity with government tender contracts and related disputes is an advantage

Clear, structured drafting — able to construct arguments logically with attention to facts and supporting material
Process-oriented — comfortable building and following checklists and tracking systems
Reliability and ownership — tasks get completed on time without repeated chasing
Willingness to learn — work spans sectors, regulatory frameworks, and case types
Comfort with operational work — significant portion of the role is document organisation, scheduling, and tracking
