Job Description – Laboratory Assistant
Job Summary
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting the effective functioning of the school's science laboratories by preparing materials and equipment for practical sessions, maintaining laboratory resources, ensuring safety standards, and assisting teachers and students during laboratory activities. The role contributes to creating a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment that promotes hands-on scientific exploration.
Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Preparation and Support
- Prepare laboratory equipment, materials, chemicals, specimens, and teaching aids for practical classes.
- Assist teachers in conducting experiments, demonstrations, and practical assessments.
- Ensure laboratories are ready before and restored after each practical session.
- Support students in the proper handling and use of laboratory equipment under teacher supervision.
Inventory and Resource Management
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory equipment, chemicals, consumables, and other resources.
- Monitor stock levels and inform the administration of replenishment requirements.
- Receive, label, store, and organize laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Conduct periodic inventory checks and maintain updated stock registers.
Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure laboratory instruments and equipment are clean, functional, and properly stored.
- Arrange routine maintenance and minor repairs where necessary.
- Report damaged, faulty, or missing equipment promptly.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Maintain a safe laboratory environment and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
- Store chemicals, specimens, and hazardous materials according to prescribed guidelines.
- Ensure availability and readiness of safety equipment, including first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency supplies.
- Assist in the safe disposal of laboratory waste and expired materials.
Documentation and Administration
- Maintain laboratory records, usage logs, maintenance records, and safety documentation.
- Assist in preparing reports related to laboratory operations and resource utilization.
- Support the planning and organization of practical examinations and science-related activities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in science exhibitions, projects, workshops, and educational events.
- Support the implementation of new laboratory initiatives and best practices.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Principal or designated supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Science or a related field.
- Relevant experience in laboratory operations, preferably in an educational institution.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety practices.
- Basic computer proficiency for record maintenance and documentation.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
