Job Summary
We're seeking a detail-oriented Intake Specialist to be the starting point of every patient's prescription journey. This role has two core functions: identifying and verifying each patient's insurance information through benefits investigation, and initiating prior authorization requests. You'll dig through the EMR, call pharmacies and payers, and text patients directly to piece together complete, accurate coverage details—then get the PA started right away so the script keeps moving without delay.
What You'll Do
- Complete benefits investigations (BI) for new prescriptions, identifying the patient's pharmacy benefit details: plan type, PBM, BIN/PCN/Group, coverage status, and expected out-of-pocket cost
- Locate and verify patient insurance information by researching the EMR, reviewing intake documents, and cross-referencing prescription records
- Call pharmacies and insurance payers to confirm coverage, resolve discrepancies, and fill gaps in benefit information
- Text and call patients directly to collect missing insurance details, insurance card images, and demographic information
- Initiate prior authorization requests once benefits are verified, ensuring all required patient, provider, and coverage information is complete and accurate
- Submit PAs through the appropriate channel for each payer (CoverMyMeds, payer portals, fax) and confirm receipt, gathering clinical documentation from the EMR as needed
- Document every step of each case in the team database, keeping records complete and audit-ready
- Flag cases needing escalation (inactive coverage, unaffordable out-of-pocket costs, missing information) to the appropriate team member
- Participate in team meetings to problem-solve patient issues and improve intake workflows on behalf of patients and partner practices
Requirements:
- You have experience with US pharmacy or medical benefits investigation—you know how to read an insurance card, identify a PBM, and understand plan structures (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid)
- You're comfortable navigating EMR systems (EPIC, Cerner, NextGen, or similar) to locate patient insurance and demographic information
- You're confident on the phone with pharmacies, payers, and patients, and comfortable communicating with patients by text
- You've initiated prior authorizations and are familiar with platforms like CoverMyMeds or payer portals
- You're persistent and detail-obsessed—incomplete or inaccurate insurance info creates delays for patients, and you don't let that happen
- You're a creative problem solver who advocates for patients
- You thrive in a start-up environment and enjoy helping build workflows from the ground up
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken—you'll be on the phone with US pharmacies and payers and texting with patients daily
- Able to work hours that overlap with US Eastern Time business hours
- Preferred: Prior experience in US healthcare—pharmacy support, revenue cycle, medical billing, or a BPO/offshore team supporting US providers or payers
Pay: ₹80,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
