Job Title: Manual Honing Machine Operator
Job Summary:
The Honing Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual honing machines to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications. The operator ensures dimensional accuracy, surface finish quality, and adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:*
* Set up and operate Sunnen manual ID honing machines.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
* Select and install appropriate honing stones, mandrels, and tooling.
* Adjust machine settings to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.
* Measure parts using precision measuring instruments (bore gauges, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.).
* Maintain dimensional tolerances within specified limits.
* Perform in-process inspections and final quality checks.
* Troubleshoot minor machine issues and make necessary adjustments.
* Maintain proper coolant levels and machine lubrication.
* Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning.
* Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
* Record production and inspection data as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* High school diploma or equivalent (Technical training preferred).
* 1–3 years of experience operating Sunnen honing machines (preferred).
* Strong understanding of precision machining and metal finishing.
* Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
* Knowledge of bore sizing, taper correction, and surface finish control.
* Experience using precision measuring tools.
* Good mechanical aptitude.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to stand for extended periods.
* Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs.
* Good hand-eye coordination.
* Manual dexterity for handling small precision components.
