An academic counsellor is responsible for guiding students through academic planning, course selection, and career path development to ensure their educational and personal success.
- Academic Planning: Help students develop personalised learning plans and course schedules aligned with graduation and career goals.
- Progress Monitoring: Track student performance, grades, and attendance to identify learning gaps or early signs of academic distress.
- Intervention & Support: Provide one-on-one or group guidance sessions to address study habits, time management, and academic stress.
Admissions and Institutional Duties
- Admissions Guidance: Explain institutional policies, entry requirements, and program offerings to prospective students.
- Lead Conversion & Enrollment: In many commercial or ed-tech settings, manage initial inquiries, guide enrollment processes, and maintain student records.
- Resource Referral: Connect students with tutoring, mentoring, or mental health counseling services.
Collaboration and Communication
- Stakeholder Meetings: Maintain ongoing communication with teachers, administrators, and parents regarding student progress or behavioral concerns.
- Record Keeping: Maintain confidential, accurate logs of student assessments, transcripts, and counselling session notes. [1, 2, 3]
