ROLE SUMMARY
We are looking for a Robotics Engineer with a strong embedded systems background to design, develop, and support robotic systems — from the electronics/MCU layer up through motor and motion control. This is a generic robotics engineering role covering hardware bring-up, embedded control, sensor integration, testing, and documentation, with the added opportunity to work on advanced robotic platforms — including humanoid robots — as part of the current project portfolio.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and support embedded control software/firmware for robotic systems, including motor/motion control, sensor interfacing, and safety logic.
- Understand and work across a robot's overall architecture — compute/control unit, joint/motor controllers, sensors, and power systems — to debug and integrate subsystems.
- Program and test embedded controllers/MCUs for real-time control loops, closed-loop motor control, and I/O management.
- Integrate and calibrate sensors (encoders, IMU, force/torque, proximity, vision, etc.) for accurate feedback and control.
- Support robot hardware bring-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and preventive/corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Work with communication/fieldbus protocols used in robotics and automation (e.g., CAN/CAN-FD, EtherCAT, RS-485) for joint and sensor networks.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software/AI teams to define system requirements and resolve cross-disciplinary integration issues.
- Support evaluation and integration of alternate hardware components (MCUs, drivers, sensor modules) into existing robot platforms, where required.
- Assist with safety validation activities (e-stops, watchdogs, torque/limit checks) during hardware testing and bring-up.
- Maintain clear technical documentation — architecture notes, wiring/interfaces, test results, and lessons learned.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical design reviews, and continuous improvement of robotic systems and processes.

Work Experience
REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL COMPETENCY)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
- 3-8 years of experience as an embedded systems / robotics engineer, developing and integrating robotic or automated systems.
- Practical understanding of how a robot works — compute/control unit, joint/motor architecture, sensors, and how these are coordinated by software.
- Experience programming embedded controllers/MCUs (e.g., ARM Cortex-M class or similar) for motor control, sensor interfacing, or real-time control loops.
- Working knowledge of motor control techniques (FOC/PID) and basic sensor fusion (IMU, encoders, force/torque).
- Experience with at least one communication/fieldbus protocol used in robotics or automation (CAN/CAN-FD, EtherCAT, RS-485, or similar).
- Strong programming skills in C/C++ and/or Python for embedded development and test/automation tooling.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems involved in robotics, and ability to read basic electrical schematics.
- Comfortable working across hardware, firmware, and basic software layers to debug and resolve integration issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills; able to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
DESIRED / GOOD-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Exposure to humanoid robots or advanced articulated robotic platforms is a strong plus (relevant to current project needs).
- Hands-on experience or exposure to AMR/AGV, dexterous/robotic arms, or robot torso/manipulator systems.
- Experience with hardware retrofit — evaluating and swapping in alternate MCUs, motor drivers, or sensor modules on an existing robot platform.
- Exposure to ROS/ROS2 for integrating embedded control with higher-level robot software.
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing setups, and bridging simulation-trained AI/control policies onto embedded hardware.
- Familiarity with functional safety concepts relevant to robotics (e.g., safe torque off, redundant sensing, IEC 61508 / ISO 26262).
- Familiarity with Renesas or similar MCU families (e.g., RA/RZ) is an advantage.
- Awareness of model distillation/quantization concepts for running AI policies on resource-constrained embedded hardware.
