We are seeking an experienced and dynamic mining professional to lead our entire mining operations in Sierra Leone and drive operational excellence, safety, productivity, and sustainable growth.
Position Summary
The General Manager – Mining Operations will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and performance of the company's mining operations in Sierra Leone. The role involves overseeing mine production, processing, maintenance, HSE, logistics, budgeting, compliance, workforce management, and stakeholder engagement while ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage end-to-end mining operations across the Sierra Leone project.
- Develop and execute operational strategies to achieve production and business objectives.
- Oversee mine planning, drilling, blasting, excavation, hauling, and mineral processing activities.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and statutory regulations.
- Drive operational efficiency, productivity improvements, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Manage production targets, budgets, CAPEX, and OPEX.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams including mining, geology, maintenance, processing, logistics, procurement, and administration.
- Monitor equipment utilization, maintenance schedules, and operational performance.
- Coordinate with government authorities, local communities, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Implement best practices in mine safety, environmental management, and sustainability.
- Prepare operational reports, management presentations, and performance reviews.
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Mentor and develop leadership teams to build a high-performance culture.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline. A Master's degree is an advantage.
- 10–18 years of progressive experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or General Manager role.
- Experience managing large-scale open-pit mining operations is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mine planning, production, processing, maintenance, and HSE management.
- Experience working in Africa, particularly West Africa, is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to lead multicultural teams and manage cross-functional operations.
- Strong financial, commercial, and project management skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making abilities.
- Willingness to relocate and work in Sierra Leone on a rotational or residential basis, as required.
