The Data Science team’s mission is to provide advanced analytics, intelligent automation, and deep insights relating to the economic markets, clients, and products in which CME Group operates. The team is responsible for cutting-edge data science, machine learning, generative AI integration, and developing next-generation data products.
We bring diverse skill sets together (statistics, LLMs, derivatives expertise, ingenuity, and modern AI engineering) in a highly collaborative, collegial manner. As one of the key thought leadership groups at the exchange, this team serves business leadership to identify, optimize, and promote significant market and client opportunities using state-of-the-art technology.
Principal Accountabilities:
AI & Machine Learning Innovation: Develop and deploy applications utilizing machine learning, time series, neural networks, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to create intelligent data products for derivatives financial market participants.
Generative AI & NLP Solutions: Architect and optimize natural language processing and GenAI workflows (e.g., Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic workflows, text/sentiment classification) to power advanced analytics, semantic search ranking, and hyper-personalized user experiences.
Inference & Performance Optimization: Scale and optimize AI model inference for production environments, ensuring low latency, cost efficiency, and high throughput on cloud infrastructure.
Data & Feature Engineering: Gather, process, and clean large-scale structured and unstructured data. Create, optimize, and maintain robust data, feature, and embedding pipelines across multiple formats.
AI-Driven Development: Leverage modern AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development lifecycles, maintain high code quality, and implement robust testing patterns.
Collaboration & Business Alignment: Partner closely with senior stakeholders and data scientists to translate complex, data-driven business requirements into actionable, AI-powered solutions.
Analytics & Visualization: Visualize key performance metrics using Looker, Tableau, or advanced Python visualization libraries, presenting clear, data-driven narratives to high-level business leaders.
Cloud Infrastructure: Build and maintain the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of sources using SQL, vector databases, and GCP "big data" technologies.
Skills and Software Requirements:
Core Data Science: Fluent in Python, Pandas, traditional Machine Learning, and Cloud Computing.
Generative AI Expertise: Hands-on experience working with foundation models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or open-source alternatives like Llama), prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and framework ecosystems (e.g., LangChain, Google ADK).
AI Engineering & Inference: Understanding of model quantization, caching strategies, vector databases (e.g. BigQuery Vector Search), and deploying models for efficient inference.
Modern Development Practices: Strong programming skills with a proven track record of incorporating AI coding assistants into day-to-day workflows to boost productivity and code reliability.
Software Engineering Fundamentals: Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Linux environments.
Cloud Stack: Experience with Cloud Computing Technologies, with a strong preference for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and its AI suite (Vertex AI, BigQuery).
Domain Knowledge: A strong analytical mindset with the ability to decipher complex business problems. Understanding of the commodity and financial derivative markets is highly preferred.
