An Echo Technologist, also known as an Echocardiography Technologist or Cardiac Sonographer, is responsible for conducting diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the heart. Using advanced echocardiography equipment, they capture detailed images of the heart’s chambers, valves, and blood flow, providing essential information for cardiologists to evaluate heart health and plan treatment. This role combines technical expertise, medical knowledge, and patient care skills.
- Perform one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and Doppler echocardiograms, including pulse wave, continuous wave, and color flow mapping.
- Prepare and position patients, explain procedures, and ensure comfort and safety throughout the examination.
- Adjust equipment settings to obtain optimal images and record results accurately.
- Analyze and document echocardiographic findings, reporting abnormalities such as valve disorders, congenital defects, or cardiac function issues to supervising physicians.
- Maintain and troubleshoot ultrasound equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
- Assist in training medical students, cardiology fellows, or technical staff in echocardiography techniques.
- Participate in quality control and assurance protocols to uphold imaging standards.
- Stay current with advancements in echocardiography through continuing education and professional development.
