Position Overview:
The Sanitation Officer is responsible for ensuring the plant’s hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained at all times in compliance with food safety regulations. The role involves supervising cleaning operations, managing sanitation staff, and ensuring effective use of chemicals and sanitation equipment to maintain a safe and hygienic production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, monitor, and supervise daily plant sanitation and cleaning activities across production, storage, and common areas.
- Ensure proper use, handling, and storage of cleaning chemicals as per safety standards (MSDS compliance).
- Conduct periodic inspections of plant hygiene and take corrective actions where necessary.
- Implement and monitor sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) and ensure adherence to food safety norms (FSSAI, FDA, HACCP, BRC, etc.).
- Maintain sanitation records, checklists, and reports for audits and regulatory inspections.
- Train and guide sanitation staff/workers in proper cleaning techniques, chemical handling, and personal hygiene.
- Coordinate with Production and Quality Assurance teams to plan sanitation schedules without disrupting operations.
- Identify areas for improvement in hygiene and sanitation practices and recommend solutions.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines while handling sanitation processes.
- Participate actively in internal and external audits, ensuring sanitation readiness of the plant.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Microbiology, Food Technology, Chemistry, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in plant sanitation, preferably in food manufacturing / FMCG industry.
- Knowledge of sanitation chemicals, disinfectants, and cleaning agents used in food industries.
- Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), SSOP, and HACCP principles.
- Familiarity with safety standards for chemical handling and waste disposal.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of sanitation processes, equipment, and chemicals.
- Attention to detail with excellent observation skills.
- Ability to train and manage sanitation teams effectively.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Problem-solving mindset with focus on preventive measures.
- Willingness to work in shifts and in a fast-paced production environment.
