Job Summary
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Lincoln-Douglas Debate Coaches to work with students on all aspects of LD debate. The role involves teaching debate fundamentals, preparing students for tournaments, and guiding them in case construction, argumentation, and value-based reasoning. This position is ideal for interns or recent graduates with a degree in Philosophy. A Law degree is a plus but not required. The selected coach will primarily teach students in person while the family is in India, continue coaching remotely when the family returns to the U.S., and also provide in-person instruction at the orphanage.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and coach students on NCFCA Lincoln-Douglas rules, structure, and strategies.
- Assist students in analyzing annual LD resolutions and developing cases (Value, Criterion, Contentions).
- Guide students in constructive speeches, rebuttals, and cross-examination techniques.
- Help students practice rounds and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor student progress and report on skills development.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with students and parents as needed.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy & Law.
- Experience with competitive debating, preferably Lincoln-Douglas or similar formats.
- Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to teach in person while the students are in India & various orphanages and remotely when the students are in the U.S.
Preferred:
- Law degree is beneficial.
- Experience working with younger students or high school students.
- Familiarity with NCFCA rules and judging standards.
- Strong organizational and mentoring skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Patient, encouraging, and motivating with students.
- Professional and ethical in all interactions.
- Ability to adapt coaching style to student needs.
- Lawyers and Philosophy majors interested in teaching are especially encouraged to apply.
