Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Staff Nurse / Ward In-Charge to oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned ward. The candidate will be responsible for patient care coordination, nursing supervision, staff training, documentation compliance, discharge planning, and ensuring smooth communication between patients, doctors, nurses, and administrative departments.
The role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and accountability for the overall functioning of the assigned ward.
Key ResponsibilitiesWard Management & Patient Care
- Take complete responsibility for the assigned ward and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Supervise nursing staff and ensure quality patient care at all times.
- Ensure doctors' orders are carried out accurately and promptly.
- Monitor patient condition and escalate concerns to consultants and management when required.
- Maintain patient safety, infection control, and nursing care standards.
Documentation & Case Records
- Ensure all patient case files are updated accurately and in real time.
- Verify that nursing notes, treatment sheets, medication charts, and consent forms are completed without delay.
- Conduct regular audits of patient records to ensure compliance and completeness.
- Ensure all reports, registers, and departmental documentation are maintained accurately.
Discharge Management
- Coordinate with consultants and departments to ensure discharge summaries are prepared well in advance.
- Ensure discharge documentation is complete and ready before the patient is scheduled to leave.
- Minimize discharge delays through effective coordination with doctors, pharmacy, laboratory, and billing departments.
Billing & Payment Follow-Up
- Monitor patient billing status throughout admission.
- Ensure advance payments and interim payments are collected regularly.
- Coordinate with patients and attendants regarding pending dues.
- Prevent last-minute billing issues and long waiting times during discharge.
Investigation & Report Coordination
- Ensure all laboratory and diagnostic investigations are completed on time.
- Follow up on pending reports and communicate results to the treating team promptly.
- Coordinate with laboratory, radiology, and other departments to avoid delays in patient care.
Staff Training & Supervision
- Train and mentor junior nurses and newly recruited staff.
- Conduct orientation and ward-based training sessions.
- Monitor staff performance and adherence to hospital protocols.
- Promote discipline, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the nursing team.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and infection control protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings.
- Assist management in implementing process improvements within the ward.
Eligibility Criteria
- B.Sc Nursing / GNM Nursing
- Valid Nursing Council Registration
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience
- Prior experience as a Senior Nurse, Ward In-Charge, or Nursing Supervisor preferred
