Job Title: Mechanical Draftsman / Detailing Engineer (Fabrication Industry)
· Department: Design & Engineering
· Employment Type: Full-time
· Location: [Insert City/State, e.g., Faridabad, Haryana]
· Reports To: Design Manager / Head of Engineering
Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Draftsman with a strong background in the metal fabrication industry. In this role, you will convert complex engineering concepts and rough sketches into highly accurate, detailed 2D production drawings and 3D models. The ideal candidate understands sheet metal fabrication, structural steelwork, welding symbols, and machining processes, ensuring that the workshop team can manufacture products with zero errors.
Key Responsibilities
· Production Drawings: Create detailed manufacturing drawings, including assembly drawings, part drawings, structural layouts, and cross-sections for the fabrication shop floor.
· Bill of Materials (BOM): Generate precise and comprehensive Bills of Materials, cutting lists, and material take-offs to assist the procurement and accounts teams.
· 3D Modelling & Modelling: Develop accurate 3D models of fabricated structures, enclosures, and mechanical assemblies to check for interferences and fitment.
· Welding & Machining Symbols: Apply standard welding symbols, geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T), and surface finish symbols accurately according to international standards (ISO/ASME/IS).
· Design Optimization: Collaborate with fabrication supervisors and project engineers to optimize designs for cost-effective manufacturing and easier assembly.
· Revision Control: Maintain an organized engineering database, ensuring strict version control and tracking changes made to drawings during the production cycle.
Required Qualifications & Experience
· Education: ITI (Draftsman Mechanical) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
· Experience: 1 to 2 years of solid experience as a draftsman specifically within a heavy fabrication, sheet metal, or structural steel industry.
· Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of fabrication shop-floor practices, raw material types (MS, SS), plate thicknesses, and bending allowances.
Technical Skills & Competencies
· CAD Software Mastery: Proficiency in 2D and 3D software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Solid Edge.
· Sheet Metal Design: Expertise in creating flat-pattern developments, calculating bend deductions, and designing sheet metal enclosures.
· Standards & Code Compliance: Familiarity with industrial detailing codes and standards (e.g., ASME Section VIII for pressure vessels or IS codes for structural steel).
· Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision to minimize material wastage, re-work, and dimensional errors on the factory floor.
What We Offer
· Competitive salary aligned with fabrication industry standards.
· Safe, structured, and growth-oriented engineering work environment.
· Statutory benefits, including ESIC, and annual performance bonuses.
