Role Overview
We are looking for a highly experienced Lead Flutter + Android Engineer to take technical and delivery ownership of mission-critical mobile applications deployed across environments such as airports, malls, enterprise service platforms, kiosks, and customer-service systems.
This is not an individual-contributor-only role. You will be expected to lead engineers, own technical architecture, drive project delivery, review code, solve production issues, and make key engineering decisions.
Our applications operate in 24x7 production environments and support capabilities such as real-time video calls, live messaging, streaming, backend integrations, and hardware interaction. Reliability under unstable networks, latency, connectivity loss, and high-availability conditions is essential.
The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on engineering expertise with the ability to lead a development team and take end-to-end ownership of projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical & Project Leadership
- Lead the mobile engineering team and take ownership of technical delivery across projects.
- Define application architecture, engineering standards, development practices, and technical roadmaps.
- Break down requirements into technical tasks, estimate effort, assign work, and track delivery.
- Mentor and guide developers through architecture decisions, implementation, debugging, and performance optimisation.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure high standards for code quality, maintainability, security, and reliability.
- Work closely with project managers, backend teams, QA, DevOps, product teams, and business stakeholders.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and production issues early and drive them to resolution.
- Take ownership of releases and production stability.
Flutter Architecture & Development
- Architect and develop scalable Flutter applications for enterprise and mission-critical deployments.
- Establish clean architecture and scalable state-management patterns using Bloc, Riverpod, Provider, or equivalent frameworks.
- Design reusable application components and shared modules.
- Lead implementation of:
- Custom Flutter widgets
- Complex UI flows and animations
- Application state management
- Performance tuning
- Memory optimisation
- Error handling and recovery
- Diagnose and resolve complex Flutter performance and production issues.
- Manage applications deployed through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Native Android Engineering
- Design and implement native Android modules using Kotlin or Java where Flutter alone is insufficient.
- Provide technical leadership around:
- Android SDK and lifecycle
- Background and foreground services
- Camera and microphone handling
- Permission management
- Push notifications
- Native platform channels
- Device and hardware integrations
- Crash analysis and debugging
- Troubleshoot complex Android-specific production issues.
Real-Time Communication & Streaming
Lead the implementation and optimisation of real-time voice and video capabilities using:
- Amazon Chime SDK — preferred
- WebRTC
- Similar real-time communication technologies
Take ownership of:
- Call lifecycle and state management
- Reconnection and recovery logic
- Network fluctuation handling
- Adaptive bitrate management
- Audio/video performance
- Latency and packet-loss handling
- Background/foreground call behaviour
- Camera and microphone management
The application must remain reliable even when users experience unstable public networks.
Networking & Backend Integration
Lead the integration of mobile applications with backend services through:
- REST APIs
- WebSockets
- Token-based authentication
- Real-time APIs
- Third-party SDKs and services
Ensure secure, efficient, and resilient communication between mobile applications and backend platforms.
Reliability & Production Operations
Design applications for 24x7 production environments.
Own engineering strategies for:
- Network recovery
- State persistence
- Crash monitoring
- Automatic recovery
- Background execution
- Application health monitoring
- Logging and observability
- Production incident investigation
- Root-cause analysis
- Performance optimisation
Participate in and lead technical response for critical production incidents when required.
Required ExperienceSeniority & Leadership
- 7–10 years of overall software/mobile application development experience.
- Previous experience as a Team Lead, Technical Lead, Project Lead, Lead Developer, Engineering Lead, or equivalent senior position.
- Demonstrated experience leading developers and delivering production applications.
- Strong architecture and system-design capabilities.
- Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring engineers.
- Ability to take ownership of projects from requirements through production deployment and support.
- Comfortable communicating technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Flutter
- Strong hands-on Flutter development experience, ideally 4+ years.
- Strong knowledge of Dart.
- Production experience with Bloc, Riverpod, Provider, or similar state-management frameworks.
- Experience architecting large Flutter applications.
- Strong performance profiling and optimisation skills.
- Experience releasing and maintaining production applications on the Play Store and/or App Store.
Android
- Strong native Android development experience.
- Strong knowledge of Kotlin; Java experience is also acceptable.
- Deep understanding of Android SDK and lifecycle.
- Experience with background and foreground services.
- Camera and microphone integration experience.
- Experience debugging native crashes, ANRs, memory issues, and lifecycle-related problems.
Real-Time Communication
- Hands-on experience with WebRTC, Amazon Chime SDK, or comparable real-time communication technologies.
- Strong understanding of audio/video streaming fundamentals.
- Experience building applications that handle:
- Network interruptions
- Reconnection
- High latency
- Packet loss
- Call-state transitions
- Audio/video device changes
Backend & Networking
Strong experience with:
- REST APIs
- WebSockets
- Authentication/token management
- API error handling
- Network retry and recovery strategies
- Secure application communication
Good to Have
Experience with any of the following will be an advantage:
- Mission-critical or high-availability mobile applications
- Video calling or contact-centre applications
- Airport, mall, smart-building, or enterprise deployments

Most importantly, you will act as the technical owner of the mobile platform — providing architectural direction, guiding the development team, driving delivery, and taking responsibility for the stability of the applications in production.
