Job Description (JD): Logistics In-Charge – Egg Transportation
Role Overview
The Logistics In-Charge is responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring the transportation of eggs from farms/suppliers to warehouses (FCs) and onward to customers, ensuring minimum breakage, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
A. Transport Planning & Dispatch
- Plan daily vehicle placement based on dispatch requirements and order priority
- Optimize route planning for minimum transit time and freight cost
- Ensure vehicle availability with approved transporters
- Coordinate loading schedules with warehouse/FC teams
B. Breakage & Quality Control (Critical for Eggs)
- Monitor loading/unloading practices to reduce breakage
- Ensure proper crate stacking norms are followed
- Maintain transport SOP compliance (shock, vibration handling)
- Track and report damage % by route / transporter
C. Vendor & Transporter Management
- Manage transport partners for rate negotiation and service quality
- Track transporter-wise:
- On-time performance
- Damage levels
- Cost per crate / per egg
- Develop backup vendors for peak demand or emergency dispatch
D. Cost Control & Efficiency
- Monitor freight cost per crate / per egg
- Identify cost-saving opportunities:
- Route consolidation
- Load optimization
- Backhaul planning
- Control extra expenses (detentions, idle time, returns)
E. Tracking & MIS Reporting
- Maintain daily reports:
- Dispatch vs delivery status
- Transit lead time
- Breakage report
- Freight cost tracker
- Provide daily/weekly review reports to management
- Coordinate with finance for billing and freight reconciliation
F. Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with:
- Fulfilment Centres (FCs)
- Procurement team
- Sales team (for demand planning)
- Ensure real-time updates on delays or issues
G. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all vehicles have:
- Valid documents (RC, insurance, permits)
- Compliance with food safety norms
- Maintain transport records:
- LR copies
- Delivery PODs (Proof of Delivery)
- Follow audit-ready documentation practices
3. Key KPIs / KRAs
- On-time delivery %
- Breakage % (target-driven, e.g., <0.5–1%)
- Freight cost per unit (egg/crate)
- Vehicle utilization %
- Transit lead time adherence
- Transporter performance score
4. Required Skills & Qualification
- Graduate (preferred in Logistics / Supply Chain)
- 3–6 years’ experience in transport/logistics operations
- Experience in perishable goods (preferred – eggs/FMCG)
- Strong skills in:
- Vendor management
- Cost analysis
- Route planning
- Excel / ERP (Zoho, SAP, etc.)
7. Vendor Identification & Approval
- Identify new transporters based on:
- Route requirement (local/intercity/long-haul)
- Volume capacity (crate/vehicle handling)
- Past performance references
- Conduct initial screening:
- Market reputation
- Experience in fragile/perishable goods (preferred)
8. Documentation & Compliance Verification
Ensure collection and validation of:
