A Marine Mechanical Fitter is a specialized technician responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and fabricating shipboard machinery, such as engines, pumps, compressors, and hydraulic systems, primarily working under the 2nd Engineer. They conduct routine overhauls, diagnostic tests, welding, and structural repairs in dry dock or at sea.
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
- Maintenance & Repair: Dismantle and repair main propulsion engines, generators, auxiliary machinery, and deck equipment.
- Fabrication & Welding: Perform welding, cutting, and metal fabrication tasks to repair or replace parts.
- Technical Knowledge: Read blueprints, technical manuals, and use precision tools to ensure accurate alignment and assembly.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to maritime safety regulations and maintain, and repair safety-critical equipment like firefighting systems.
- Routine Duties: Conduct daily inspections, troubleshoot machinery failures, and assist with engine room maintenance.
