Job Introduction:
The IT License Operations Analyst is a hands-on technical role within the Technical License Management team, part of IT Vendor & Contract Management. The core focus is on ensuring smooth license operations across all Magna Powertrain sites — including license server management, license deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. This role is particularly suited for candidates with a strong background in IT infrastructure, system administration, or engineering IT environments who are interested in expanding their expertise into technical license management.
The ideal candidate combines infrastructure/system engineering experience with a solid foundation in software license management (e.g. FlexLM, license servers, licensing models). The individual will apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, communicate, and resolve issues and continuously improve license management processes.
Major Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain license servers (FlexLM, vendor license managers) including configuration and troubleshooting.
Handle 2nd level support tickets for license-related issues via Matrix42 or similar ITSM tools.
Deploy and track software licenses to users, including installation and configuration.
Troubleshoot license issues for engineering tools (e.g. MathWorks, Dassault, Ansys, Vector).
Support on operating license monitoring tools (OpenLM or equivalent) including utilization tracking.
Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues and ensure compliance.
Maintain documentation of license inventories, servers, and processes.
Contribute development of license management solutions (M42, automation, reporting).
Contribute to BI dashboards and process standardization.
Support billing activities and reporting when required.
Skills and Competencies:
Hands-on experience with ITSM tools such as Matrix42, ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, or similar
Hands-on experience with license monitoring tools such as OpenLM or equivalent
Strong knowledge of FlexLM (Flexera) license server technology — configuration, option files, troubleshooting
Background in infrastructure, system administration, or engineering IT environments
Understanding of software licensing models: named user, floating, token-based
Experience with deployment and troubleshooting of engineering software tools
Familiarity with software deployment tools (e.g. SCCM, Intune)
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Good communication and documentation skills
Knowledge and Education:
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
ITIL Foundation certification is a plus.
Vendor-specific certifications (e.g. FlexNet, OpenLM) are desirable.
Experience with IT Service Management (ITSM) concepts and tools is preferred.
Work Experience:
At Magna, we believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our success. That’s why we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
