PGT English Teacher – Job Description
Position: Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) – English
Department: Academics
Reports To: Principal / Senior Academic Coordinator
Role Overview
The PGT English Teacher is responsible for teaching English to Classes 11–12, with a focus on advanced language skills, literature appreciation, critical thinking, and board exam preparation as per CBSE standards. The teacher should guide students in developing strong analytical, communication, and writing abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Classroom Delivery
- Teach English Core / English Elective to senior secondary classes (XI–XII) as per CBSE curriculum.
- Prepare detailed lesson plans, presentations, study notes, and reference materials.
- Explain prose, poetry, drama, and supplementary readers with clarity and depth.
- Develop critical thinking through literary analysis, discussions, and debates.
- Encourage creative writing, essay writing, and interpretative skills.
- Use digital tools, smart boards, and audio-visual aids for effective teaching.
Assessment & Academic Support
- Conduct periodic tests, unit exams, pre-board exams, and board exam preparation.
- Set question papers and design model papers as per CBSE pattern.
- Evaluate answer sheets and provide detailed feedback for improvement.
- Provide individual academic counselling and guidance to students.
- Support students in improving writing structure, grammar, vocabulary, and expression.
Curriculum & Planning
- Contribute to academic planning and curriculum mapping for senior classes.
- Update teaching strategies as per CBSE guidelines and NEP-2020.
- Integrate competency-based education and case-based questions in teaching.
Student Development & Enrichment
- Prepare students for debates, elocution, creative writing contests, and literary events.
- Encourage participation in English Olympiads and inter-school competitions.
- Motivate students to read widely and develop a love for literature.
Classroom & Student Management
- Maintain classroom discipline and a focused academic environment.
- Monitor student progress and address learning gaps through extra classes if required.
- Build confidence in students for public speaking and presentations.
Professional Duties
- Attend parent–teacher meetings, academic reviews, and staff meetings.
- Participate in teacher training programs, workshops, and school events.
- Coordinate with school leadership for academic improvements.
- Maintain professional conduct and follow school policies.
Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Master’s Degree in English (M.A. English)
- B.Ed. (Mandatory)
Preferred Experience
- 3–5 years of teaching English at senior secondary level.
- Experience in CBSE schools is highly preferred.
Skills
- Strong command over English language, grammar, and literature.
- Expertise in CBSE Class 11–12 syllabus and exam pattern.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to simplify complex literary concepts.
- Proficiency in using digital teaching tools and online resources.
- Student-focused and result-oriented teaching approach.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
