Job Title : Engineering Leader – Echo
Reports to: Founder
Engagement: Full-time
Location: Hyderabad
Role overview
Owns engineering for Echo end-to-end: architecture, technical roadmap, deployment, and team build-out. This is a hands-on technical leadership role; the expectation is that the leader stays close to the code through the next 18-24 months while building out the engineering organization.
Echo is an enterprise conversational BI platform that translates natural language to SQL over SAP and traditional data warehouse systems, with flexible deployment across cloud, private cloud, and fully on-premise environments (including H100-class GPU infrastructure for air-gapped banking and healthcare deployments). The stack combines a fine-tuned NL-to-SQL engine, a semantic layer for business term resolution, and a retrieval layer over schema and historical query patterns, with an evaluation harness for accuracy and hallucination control.
Core responsibilities
- Technical leadership for Echo's NLP-to-SQL engine, retrieval layer, and orchestration stack
- Ownership of cloud and on-premise deployment architecture: GPU infrastructure, model serving, security posture, network design
- Architecture decisions across model selection, RAG patterns, agent design, and evaluation infrastructure
- Engineering team management, hiring, and mentorship
- Release management, code review standards, and technical debt management
- Partnership with the Product Leader on roadmap feasibility and sequencing
- Customer-facing technical engagement on enterprise deployments where senior credibility is required
Required experience
- 10+ years in engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role owning shipped production systems
- Hands-on experience building production LLM systems: RAG, function calling, evaluation, hallucination management
- Experience with on-premise deployment of AI workloads — GPU infrastructure, model serving, network and security
- Demonstrated team building: hired and ramped engineers across senior and junior levels
- Strong code-level credibility: still writes and reviews code, not exclusively people-managing
Preferred experience
- Background with a database, data platform, or BI vendor
- Experience with NL-to-SQL, semantic layer, or conversational analytics products specifically
- Familiarity with SAP data structures (BW, HANA, S/4)
- Open-source or research contributions in NLP, retrieval, or LLM systems
