POSITION: QUALITY ENGINEER
Quality is the backbone of every steel structure. A minor error during cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, or painting can lead to major issues during erection and project execution.
The Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that every component manufactured at our facility complies with approved drawings, client specifications, quality standards, and industry best practices before dispatch.
This position requires a professional who understands structural steel fabrication from raw material inspection to final dispatch clearance.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
3 to 10 Years
Candidates having experience in:
- PEB Manufacturing
- Structural Steel Fabrication
- Heavy Engineering Fabrication
- Industrial Steel Structures
- EPC Projects
will be preferred.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- B.Tech / B.E. Mechanical Engineering
- Production Engineering
Additional certifications related to welding inspection or quality management will be an advantage.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The selected candidate will be responsible for monitoring and controlling quality throughout the manufacturing cycle.
1. RAW MATERIAL INSPECTION
Before fabrication starts, the Quality Engineer must ensure that incoming materials meet project specifications.
Responsibilities include:
- Verification of steel grade and material test certificates (MTC)
- Checking plate thickness and dimensions
- Inspection of purlin coils and secondary steel sections
- Verification of paint and coating materials
- Ensuring traceability of materials throughout production
Why this is important:
Using incorrect steel grades or dimensions can compromise structural strength and lead to rejection by clients or consultants.
2. CUTTING QUALITY CONTROL
The Quality Engineer shall inspect all cutting operations performed through Plasma, Oxy-Fuel, and other cutting processes.
Responsibilities include:
- Verification of dimensions after cutting
- Inspection of edge quality and cut finish
- Checking identification marking and traceability
- Monitoring nesting and material utilization
Why this is important:
Incorrect cutting directly affects fit-up quality, assembly accuracy, and erection performance at site.
3. FIT-UP & ASSEMBLY INSPECTION
The Quality Engineer shall inspect fabricated assemblies before welding.
Responsibilities include:
- Verification of dimensions as per fabrication drawings
- Inspection of web and flange alignment
- Verification of plate positioning
- Checking squareness and straightness of members
- Ensuring proper tack welding practices
Components to be inspected:
- Columns
- Rafters
- Crane Beams
- Bracings
- Mezzanine Members
- Connection Plates
- Built-Up Sections
Why this is important:
A wrongly assembled member can create major erection issues and increase rework costs.
4. WELDING QUALITY ASSURANCE
One of the most critical responsibilities of the Quality Engineer is ensuring weld quality.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring welding activities as per approved procedures
- Inspection of weld preparation before welding
- Checking weld size, profile, and appearance
- Identifying welding defects such as:
- Undercut
- Porosity
- Slag Inclusion
- Cracks

Why this is important:
Welds carry structural loads. Poor welding can result in structural failures and client rejections.
5. DRILLING & PUNCHING INSPECTION
The Quality Engineer must verify:
- Hole diameter
- Hole location
- Hole alignment
- End distances
- Pitch and gauge dimensions
Why this is important:
Incorrect holes create major problems during erection and delay project completion.
6. DIMENSIONAL INSPECTION
The Quality Engineer shall perform detailed dimensional inspections.
Parameters include:
- Overall length
- Width
- Height
- Straightness
- Camber
- Twist
- Alignment
Inspection shall be carried out using:

Responsibilities include:
- Surface preparation inspection
- Verification of paint system
- Monitoring primer application
- Checking Dry Film Thickness (DFT)
- Inspection of paint finish and coverage
Why this is important:
Proper coating improves corrosion resistance and extends building life.
8. FINAL INSPECTION & DISPATCH CLEARANCE
