An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician is an allied healthcare professional responsible for managing surgical equipment, maintaining sterile environments, and assisting surgeons and anesthesiologists before, during, and after surgical procedures to ensure safe and efficient operations
1. Pre-Operative Responsibilities
- Prepare the Operation Theatre before surgery.
- Check cleanliness and sterility of OT rooms.
- Arrange surgical instruments, drapes, consumables, and equipment as per the surgery schedule.
- Verify functionality of OT equipment such as:
- OT Table
- Shadowless OT Lights
- Electrocautery Machine
- Suction Apparatus
- Anesthesia Machine
- Defibrillator
- Multipara Monitor
- Ensure oxygen, medical gases, and power supply are available.
- Assist in patient shifting and positioning.
- Confirm patient identity and surgical site as per hospital protocol.
- Ensure all sterile packs and instruments are ready before the procedure.
2. Intra-Operative Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons and OT nurses during surgical procedures.
- Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Pass instruments and surgical supplies as required.
- Operate and monitor OT equipment during surgery.
- Assist the anesthetist when required.
- Handle specimens and send them to the laboratory as instructed.
- Ensure adequate supply of surgical consumables during procedures.
- Immediately report equipment malfunction or emergencies to the OT In-charge.
3. Post-Operative Responsibilities
- Assist in transferring patients safely to Recovery Room/ICU/Ward.
- Clean and disinfect OT tables, lights, and equipment.
- Segregate biomedical waste according to Biomedical Waste Management Rules.
- Send used instruments for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
- Restock surgical supplies and consumables.
- Prepare OT for the next scheduled surgery.
- Document equipment usage and maintenance records.
4. Equipment Maintenance Responsibilities
- Perform daily equipment checks.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment immediately.
- Maintain equipment log books.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
- Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering Department for repairs.
5. Infection Control Responsibilities
- Follow hospital infection control policies.
- Wear appropriate PPE during all procedures.
- Maintain hand hygiene standards.
- Ensure proper sterilization and storage of instruments.
- Participate in infection control audits and training programs.
6. Documentation Responsibilities
- Maintain OT registers and records.
- Record surgical instrument usage.
- Document sterilization records.
- Maintain inventory records of OT consumables.
- Report incidents, accidents, and near-miss events.
7. General Rules & Regulations
- Report to duty on time and maintain discipline.
- Maintain professional behavior with patients and staff.
- Keep all patient information confidential.
- Follow instructions of OT In-charge, Surgeons, and Hospital Management.
- Attend mandatory training programs and meetings.
- Wear hospital-issued uniform and ID card during duty hours.
- Do not leave the OT without permission during working hours.
- Follow all hospital safety and emergency protocols.
Reporting Authority
Reports To: OT In-Charge / Nursing Superintendent / Medical Superintendent
Qualification
- Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT) / B.Sc Operation Theatre Technology (B.Sc OTT)
- Basic knowledge of surgical procedures and sterilization techniques.
- Knowledge of infection control and biomedical waste management.
Pay: From ₹12,000.00 per month
