Job Summary
The Turner is responsible for operating conventional lathe machines to manufacture, repair, and finish metal components as per engineering drawings and production requirements. The role ensures dimensional accuracy, quality, productivity, and compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate conventional lathe machines to perform turning, facing, threading, boring, drilling, and grooving operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Set up machines with appropriate cutting tools, chucks, fixtures, and workpieces.
- Measure finished components using precision measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, and dial gauges.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and ensure products meet quality specifications.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication.
- Identify machine defects or abnormal conditions and report them to the Maintenance team.
- Ensure optimum utilization of raw materials and minimize scrap generation.
- Follow production schedules and achieve daily production targets.
- Maintain housekeeping in accordance with 5S standards.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear the required PPE while working.
- Support continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.
Educational Qualification
- ITI – Turner (Preferred)
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Added advantage)
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience operating conventional lathe machines in a metal manufacturing, fabrication, foundry, engineering, or recycling industry.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of conventional lathe machine operations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, machining parameters, and tolerances.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments.
- Basic understanding of machine maintenance.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work in shifts and under production targets.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all plant safety rules and standard operating procedures.
- Wear mandatory PPE while working.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
