Position: Site Project Manager / Site Head – GIS/AIS Substation Projects
Department: Projects
Reporting To: Project Manager / General Manager – Projects
Job Purpose
To lead and manage the complete execution of GIS/AIS substation projects at site by ensuring safe, timely, cost-effective, and quality-compliant project delivery in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, client requirements, and statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities1. Site Management
- Take complete responsibility for day-to-day site operations.
- Establish and manage the site office, stores, and material handling systems.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, tools, and subcontractors.
- Monitor site progress and ensure adherence to the approved project schedule.
- Review daily productivity and implement corrective actions when required.
2. Project Execution
Supervise and execute installation of:
- GIS Switchgear
- AIS Switchyard Equipment
- Power Transformers
- Control & Relay Panels
- HT/LT Panels
- Battery & Charger Systems
- Cable Trays and Cable Laying
- Earthing & Lightning Protection Systems
- Outdoor Structures and Busbars
- Ensure execution as per approved drawings, BOQ, specifications, and project standards.
3. Planning & Scheduling
- Prepare weekly and monthly execution plans.
- Develop manpower deployment plans.
- Identify critical activities and monitor project milestones.
- Coordinate shutdowns, outages, and client approvals.
4. Safety Management
- Implement company HSE policies and statutory safety requirements.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Ensure mandatory PPE compliance.
- Perform regular safety inspections and audits.
- Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
5. Quality Assurance & Control
- Ensure work complies with approved drawings, ITPs, method statements, client specifications, and IEC/IS standards.
- Coordinate inspections with clients, consultants, and third-party agencies.
- Ensure timely closure of NCRs and punch-list items.
6. Material Management
- Verify incoming materials and maintain inventory records.
- Monitor material consumption and reconciliation.
- Prevent material shortages, damage, and wastage.
- Coordinate material requirements with procurement and project teams.
7. Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Serve as the primary site contact for clients, consultants, OEM engineers, and utility authorities.
- Attend project review meetings.
- Resolve technical and execution-related issues at site.
- Maintain strong client relationships throughout project execution.
8. Testing & Commissioning
Coordinate and supervise:
- Primary & Secondary Injection Testing
- Protection Relay Testing
- CT/PT Testing
- Transformer Testing
- Cable Testing
- GIS Gas Pressure Checks
- Functional & Interlocking Tests
- SCADA/RTU Integration
- Grid Synchronization
- Final Commissioning
9. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain and submit:
- Daily Progress Reports (DPR)
- Site Diary
- Material Reconciliation Reports
- Inspection & Test Records
- NCR Register
- Site Instructions
- Request for Inspection (RFI)
- Measurement Books
- As-Built Drawings
- Completion Dossiers
10. Cost & Resource Control
- Monitor project costs and labour productivity.
- Minimize material wastage and project rework.
- Support client billing and subcontractor certification.
- Ensure efficient utilization of manpower and equipment.
11. Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Allocate work responsibilities and monitor performance.
- Train junior engineers and maintain site discipline.
- Foster teamwork and a positive work environment.
12. Risk Management
- Identify execution risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Resolve technical and contractual challenges.
- Escalate major issues to project management as required.

Education
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
Experience
Site Project Manager / Site Head
- 10–15+ years of experience in GIS/AIS substation projects.
- Proven experience in managing complete project execution, including erection, testing, commissioning, client coordination, subcontractor management, and project handover.
