Role Summary:
The Technical Lead will own the end-to-end technical vision and architecture for assigned products or streams, driving design decisions from ideation through production. The role combines strong hands-on expertise in Python/Django, Java/Spring Boot, and AWS Cloud with technical leadership, architecture, engineering governance, and team mentoring responsibilities. The candidate will drive engineering best practices, ensure performance, scalability and security requirements are embedded in designs, and act as the primary technical escalation point for production issues.
Technical Leadership & Architecture:
- Own the end-to-end technical vision for assigned products or streams, driving design decisions from ideation through production.
- Conduct architecture reviews and provide guidance on system design, API contracts, data modelling, and service boundaries.
- Champion engineering best practices, clean code, SOLID principles, design patterns, comprehensive test coverage, and documentation.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and tooling where they improve delivery speed, reliability, or maintainability.
- Lead technical threat-modelling sessions and ensure non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, and security are embedded in every design.
Python / Django Development
- Lead the development of backend services, REST/GraphQL APIs, and data-processing pipelines using Python and Django.
- Establish coding standards, review PRs, and maintain a high bar for Python code quality across the team.
- Guide the team on Django ORM optimisation, DRF serializer design, Celery task management, and secure session/auth patterns.
- Oversee database migration strategies and ensure zero-downtime deployment of schema changes.
Java / Spring Boot Development:
- Architect and develop microservices and enterprise integrations using Java and Spring Boot.
- Apply Spring ecosystem best practices including Dependency Injection, Spring Security, Spring Data JPA, Spring Cloud, and Actuator for observability.
- Drive inter-service communication design using REST, gRPC, and messaging via Kafka or RabbitMQ, and define service-level contracts.
- Guide team members on Java concurrency, JVM tuning, and performance profiling.
AWS Cloud & Infrastructure:
- Define and oversee the cloud infrastructure strategy for team workloads on AWS.
- Govern CI/CD pipelines, IaC (CloudFormation/Terraform), and deployment automation across environments.
- Ensure secure, cost-optimised, and resilient architectures leveraging appropriate AWS managed services.
- Act as the primary escalation point for production incidents, leading root-cause analysis and postmortems.
Team & Project Management:
- Manage day-to-day delivery of sprint commitments, maintaining velocity and proactively surfacing risks.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives, and continuously improve team processes.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through structured 1:1s, code reviews, and pairing sessions.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, UX, QA, and DevOps to define roadmaps, estimate effort, and prioritise work.
