Job Summary
A Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathe machines to produce precision components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The operator ensures safe machine operation, productivity, and quality output.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate conventional or CNC lathe machines to manufacture components as per specifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
- Set up tools, fixtures, and machine parameters for production.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Monitor machine performance and make minor adjustments as required.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and maintain product quality standards.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and cleaning activities.
- Identify and report machine malfunctions or quality issues to supervisors.
- Follow production schedules and achieve daily production targets.
- Maintain workplace safety and comply with company policies and procedures.
- Keep production records and inspection reports updated.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Machinist, Turner, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 1–5 years of experience operating lathe machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and machine settings.
- Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring instruments.
- Basic understanding of quality control procedures.
- Good problem-solving and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in CNC Lathe operation and programming.
- Knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing practices.
- Familiarity with ISO quality standards.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing/production shop floor environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and handle machine tools and materials.
- Willingness to work in shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.
