QC Engg/VDI Inspector
Job Summary
The QC & VDI In-Charge is responsible for ensuring that stainless steel pipes and tubes comply with customer specifications, international standards, and approved inspection plans. This role includes managing quality inspections, Vendor Document Inspection (VDI), test reports, certifications, and final documentation for dispatch and customer approval.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with ASTM, ASME, EN, DIN, JIS, and customer specifications for SS pipes & tubes.
- Review Purchase Orders, ITPs, QAPs, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Conduct and supervise:
- Raw material inspection
- In-process inspection
- Final inspection prior to dispatch
- Verify heat numbers, material grades, sizes, wall thickness, and tolerances.
- Coordinate and witness:
- PMI testing
- Mechanical tests (Tensile, Flattening, Flaring, Hardness)
- Chemical analysis
- NDT (UT, Eddy Current, Hydro Test, Pneumatic Test)
- Monitor dimensional inspections using Vernier, Micrometer, UT thickness gauge, gauges, etc.
- Ensure surface finish, straightness, ovality, and end finishing meet standards.
VDI
- Review and approve Mill Test Certificates (MTC – EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2).
- Verify and compile:
- Chemical & Mechanical test reports
- NDT reports
- Hydro / Pneumatic test reports
- Calibration certificates
- Heat treatment charts
- PMI reports
- Maintain traceability from raw material to finished product.
- Prepare Final Data Book for customer submission.
- Coordinate with third-party inspection agencies
- Address customer comments, NCRs, and document clarifications.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure adherence to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45000 quality systems.
- Maintain inspection records, logs, and QC reports.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ensure corrective actions.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Ensure proper marking, tagging, and packing as per standards.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with production, planning, stores, and dispatch teams.
- Coordinate inspections with customers and third-party inspectors.
- Provide technical support to resolve quality-related issues.
- Ensure timely document submission to avoid dispatch delays.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Stainless Steel grades (304, 304L, 316, 316L, 321, 310, Duplex, etc.)
- Expertise in pipes & tubes manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in QC instruments and inspection techniques.
- Excellent documentation and report-review skills.
- Good communication with customers and inspection agencies.
- Familiar with international standards & codes.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
