About the Role:
The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care and ensuring the smooth functioning of the Operation Theatre.
The role involves assisting surgeons and anaesthesiologists during surgical procedures, maintaining OT equipment and records, ensuring compliance with clinical protocols, and supporting patient care throughout the perioperative process.
Key Responsibilities
Operation Theatre Management
- Ensure proper functioning and readiness of OT equipment, including anaesthesia machines, ventilators, heart-lung machines, suction units, and other critical equipment.
- Conduct regular physical verification and inspection of OT equipment and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain operation theatre records, logs, and documentation as per hospital protocols.
- Ensure uninterrupted availability of oxygen, suction, and centralized oxygen piping systems.
- Monitor and maintain OT temperature, humidity, and environmental conditions as per established protocols.
- Ensure proper functioning of scavenging systems for the safe removal of anaesthetic gases.
- Coordinate fumigation and infection control activities in OTs and maintain related documentation.
Surgical Assistance
- Verify the functionality of anaesthesia machines, breathing systems, and related equipment before procedures.
- Check and ensure availability of all required surgical instruments, consumables, medicines, and implants before surgery.
- Prepare and arrange OT trolleys and surgical sets according to procedure requirements.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by providing instruments, supplies, and procedural support.
- Handle and assist with C-ARM equipment during surgeries as required.
- Assist anaesthesiologists in administering medications, IV fluids, blood products, and preparing required drugs.
Patient Care
- Assist in transferring patients safely between stretchers, operating tables, recovery areas, and hospital rooms.
- Monitor patients during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.
- Observe and promptly report any changes in patient condition to the concerned medical team.
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and quality standards.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate nursing records and OT documentation.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, NABH standards, and statutory requirements.
- Participate in audits, training programs, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Sound knowledge of nursing procedures and OT protocols.
- Understanding of infection control and patient safety practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work in shifts and handle emergency situations.
Qualification Requirements
- GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) from a recognized institution.
- Valid Nursing Council Registration.
- ICU / OT experience will be an added advantage.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
