Job Summary
OT Assistant is responsible for supporting ophthalmic surgical procedures by preparing the operation theatre, maintaining sterility, assisting surgeons and nursing staff during surgeries, handling instruments, and ensuring smooth OT operations while maintaining patient safety and infection control standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Operative Duties
- Prepare OT before surgery as per hospital protocols.
- Ensure all ophthalmic instruments, consumables, IOLs, and equipment are sterilized and ready.
- Set up surgical trays for Cataract, Pterygium, Glaucoma, Retina, and other eye procedures.
- Verify functionality of microscope, phaco machine, cautery, suction, and other OT equipment.
- Assist in patient preparation and positioning.
Intra-Operative Duties
- Assist surgeons and OT nurses during ophthalmic surgeries.
- Pass instruments and consumables as required.
- Maintain sterile field and follow aseptic techniques throughout procedures.
- Support smooth workflow inside the OT and respond promptly to surgical team requirements.
Post-Operative Duties
- Clean and disinfect OT after procedures.
- Collect, clean, and send instruments for sterilization.
- Restock surgical supplies and consumables.
- Ensure biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per protocol.
- Maintain OT records and inventory support activities.
Qualification
- Diploma / Certificate in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or relevant paramedical qualification.
- Experience in Eye Hospital OT preferred.
Experience
- 2–4 years in Operation Theatre / Eye Hospital OT.
- Experience in assisting Cataract and LASIK surgeries is an added advantage.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of OT sterilization and infection control.
- Basic understanding of ophthalmic surgical instruments.

Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts as per OT schedule.
- Availability for emergency surgeries when required.
- Standing for extended periods during surgical procedures.
Reporting To
- OT In-Charge / Branch Manager / Medical Director.
KPIs
- OT readiness before scheduled surgeries.
- Compliance with sterilization and infection control protocols.
- Zero OT-related safety incidents.
- Timely turnaround of OT between cases.
- Proper maintenance of instruments and consumables.
Salary: As per hospital standards + applicable benefits.
Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
