A Speech Therapist is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating children with speech, language, communication, and feeding/swallowing disorders. The therapist works closely with children, parents, and a multidisciplinary team to improve communication skills and overall development. Key Responsibilities 1. Assessment & Evaluation Conduct detailed speech and language assessments Identify delays in: Expressive language Receptive language Articulation & phonology Pragmatic (social) communication Use standardized and non-standardized tools 2. Therapy Planning & Intervention Develop individualized therapy plans (IEPs) Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions Work on: Speech clarity Language development Oro-motor skills Feeding therapy (if required) Use evidence-based techniques 3. Parent Counseling & Training Educate parents about child’s condition Provide home programs and carryover strategies Guide parents on behavior and communication support 4. Documentation & Reporting Maintain session notes and progress reports Update assessment records regularly Prepare reports for parents and schools 5. Multidisciplinary Collaboration Coordinate with: Occupational therapists Special educators Psychologists Participate in case discussions 6. Behavioral & Functional Support Manage children with: Autism ADHD Developmental delays Work on attention, eye contact, and communication intent Skills Required Strong understanding of speech and language development Knowledge of disorders like Autism, ADHD, GDD Good communication and counseling skills Patience and child-friendly approach Ability to handle sensory and behavioral challenges
