Job Summary
The Casualty Medical Officer is responsible for providing immediate medical care and emergency treatment to patients attending the casualty/emergency department. The CMO ensures prompt assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, treatment, and referral/admission of patients while maintaining proper documentation and coordination with other departments.
Roles & Responsibilities1. Patient Assessment & Emergency Care
- Attend all emergency and casualty patients immediately upon arrival.
- Perform rapid clinical assessment and triage of patients.
- Provide emergency medical management and life-saving treatment.
- Stabilize critically ill or trauma patients before referral or transfer.
- Conduct physical examinations and formulate provisional diagnosis.
- Initiate emergency procedures and interventions as required.
2. Clinical Management
- Prescribe appropriate medications, investigations, and treatment plans.
- Interpret basic laboratory and radiology reports.
- Manage medical, surgical, trauma, poisoning, and accident cases.
- Perform emergency procedures such as:
- Suturing
- Dressing
- IV Cannulation
- Catheterization
- CPR/BLS/ACLS
- Intubation assistance
- Nebulization
- Monitor patient progress during emergency observation.
3. Admission & Referral Coordination
- Decide on admission, discharge, or referral of patients.
- Coordinate with consultants and specialty departments.
- Arrange transfer of patients to ICU, OT, wards, or higher centers when needed.
- Ensure proper handover during shift changes.
4. Documentation & Records
- Maintain accurate casualty records and patient case sheets.
- Prepare medico-legal case (MLC) documentation whenever required.
- Record treatment details, procedures, and patient progress notes.
- Ensure completion of discharge summaries and referral notes.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
5. Emergency Response & Disaster Management
- Participate in hospital emergency response activities.
- Attend mass casualty incidents and disaster situations.
- Coordinate with ambulance services and emergency teams.
- Ensure readiness of emergency equipment and crash cart.
6. Communication & Patient Care
- Communicate patient condition clearly to relatives and attendants.
- Counsel patients regarding treatment and follow-up.
- Maintain professional behavior and compassionate care.
- Handle patient complaints and emergency situations calmly.
7. Infection Control & Safety
- Follow hospital infection control protocols.
- Ensure biomedical waste segregation and disposal practices.
- Use PPE and maintain workplace safety standards.
- Report adverse incidents and safety concerns immediately.
8. Administrative Responsibilities
- Coordinate with nursing staff and support departments.
- Ensure adequate availability of emergency medicines and consumables.
- Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and training programs.
- Follow hospital policies, NABH standards, and clinical protocols.
Qualification
- MBBS from recognized medical institution.
- Valid Medical Council Registration.
- ACLS/BLS certification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 1–3 years experience in Emergency/Casualty Department preferred.

Duty Timing
- Rotational shifts including Day/Night duties.

Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹70,000.00 per month
