The Market Consultant will support women-led fisheries enterprises, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), producer groups, cooperatives, and Fish Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPOs) in improving market access, strengthening value chains, enhancing product competitiveness, and establishing sustainable and fair market linkages for fish and value-added fish products. The consultant will work closely with community institutions and project teams to identify market opportunities, develop business partnerships, strengthen branding and packaging, and facilitate access to profitable markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Research and Analysis
- Conduct market assessments for fresh fish, dried fish, processed fish, and value-added fish products.
- Identify market trends, customer preferences, pricing structures, and emerging business opportunities.
- Analyse supply chains and recommend interventions to improve market efficiency and profitability.
Market Linkage Development
- Identify and establish linkages with wholesalers, retailers, supermarkets, institutional buyers, restaurants, hospitality sectors, and e-commerce platforms.
- Facilitate buyer-seller meetings and business negotiations.
- Support women groups and FFPOs in securing sustainable market partnerships and procurement agreements.
Enterprise and Business Development
- Assess business performance and identify opportunities for market expansion.
- Support development of business plans and marketing strategies for women groups and FFPOs.
- Recommend market-driven product diversification opportunities and facilitate access to new and premium market segments.
Branding, Packaging and Promotion
- Support development of product branding, labels, packaging, and promotional materials.
- Develop marketing campaigns to increase visibility and customer outreach.
- Promote sustainable fisheries products and women-led enterprises through appropriate marketing channels.
- Guide enterprises on digital marketing and online sales opportunities.
Capacity Building and Technical Support
- Conduct training programmes on market analysis, pricing, negotiation, customer management, branding, and business development.
- Develop training materials, business tools, and market information resources.
Quality Assurance and Market Compliance
- Support adoption of quality standards required by formal markets.
- Promote traceability and responsible sourcing practices where applicable.
Networking and Stakeholder Engagement
- Establish partnerships with government agencies, fisheries departments, marketing boards, private sector buyers, and financial institutions.
- Represent the project in relevant exhibitions, trade fairs, and market development forums.
- Foster collaboration among value chain actors to strengthen fisheries enterprises.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Monitor sales growth, market penetration, buyer engagement, and enterprise performance.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and final consultancy reports documenting progress, outcomes, and recommendations.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.
Qualification
- Master's Degree in Marketing, Agribusiness, Fisheries Economics, Business Administration, Rural Management, Food Processing, or a related field
Experience
- Minimum 6-7 years of experience in market development, value chain development, agribusiness, fisheries marketing, enterprise promotion, or related areas.
- Proven experience in facilitating market linkages and business partnerships.
- Experience working with SHGs, producer groups, cooperatives, FPOs, FFPOs, or women-led enterprises.
- Prior experience in fisheries, seafood marketing, food products, or rural enterprise development will be highly desirable.
