Associate Professor – Biochemistry

Job Summary
Sri Muthukumaran Medical College & Research Institute is inviting applications from qualified and dedicated candidates for the position of Associate Professor – Biochemistry. The selected candidate will be responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical biochemistry laboratory services, academic research, student mentoring, and departmental administrative activities in accordance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching for MBBS students and postgraduate trainees.
- Conduct lectures, practical classes, tutorials, seminars, and integrated teaching sessions.
- Guide and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in academics and research.
- Supervise dissertations, research projects, and scientific publications.
- Participate in curriculum planning, assessment, and competency-based medical education (CBME).
- Oversee quality assurance and smooth functioning of the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory.
- Ensure adherence to NABL/NMC standards, laboratory safety protocols, and quality control procedures.
- Participate in departmental meetings, academic activities, CME programs, workshops, and conferences.
- Collaborate with clinical departments for patient care, diagnostic support, and interdisciplinary research.
- Maintain accurate academic records, documentation, and departmental reports.
- Participate in institutional committees and accreditation activities as assigned.
- Contribute to faculty development programs and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria
- MD in Biochemistry from a recognized medical institution OR
- PhD in Biochemistry from a recognized university, wherever eligible as per the latest National Medical Commission (NMC) norms and institutional requirements.
- Must satisfy the latest NMC eligibility criteria for the post of Associate Professor.
- Required teaching experience as prescribed under applicable regulations.
- Research publications as per NMC/institutional requirements.
- Excellent teaching, communication, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Skills
- Strong knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine.
- Experience with competency-based medical education (CBME).
- Leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Research aptitude with scientific publications.
- Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment.
