Role Overview
The Head – Solar will be responsible for end-to-end leadership of solar power plant projects, including feasibility, design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, grid connectivity, handover, and operations oversight.
The role requires deep technical expertise, strong commercial and procurement understanding, regulatory knowledge, and proven leadership capability to manage multi-MW solar portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy, Planning & Feasibility
- Define solar project strategy, execution roadmap, and capacity planning.
- Conduct technical and commercial feasibility studies.
- Review land availability, irradiation data, shading analysis, and layout planning.
- Finalise project timelines, milestones, and resource planning.
2. Engineering & Design Knowledge
- Review and approve system design and engineering:
- DC & AC design
- String configuration
- Inverter sizing and selection
- Transformer, HT/LT panels, and substation design
- Earthing, lightning protection, and SCADA
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, IS, MNRE, and DISCOM standards.
- Optimise plant performance, PR, and generation output.
3. Procurement & Supply Chain
- End-to-end responsibility for procurement planning and execution.
- Finalize vendors for:
- Solar modules
- Inverters
- MMS / structures
- Cables, BOS, and balance materials
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, warranties, and payment terms.
- Ensure quality inspection, logistics planning, and inventory control.
4. Project Execution & Construction
- Lead on-site EPC execution for ground-mounted and/or rooftop solar plants.
- Oversee civil, mechanical, and electrical works.
- Monitor daily progress, productivity, and manpower deployment.
- Ensure adherence to project timelines, scope, and cost.
5. Quality Assurance & Safety (QA/QC & EHS)
- Establish and enforce quality control systems across projects.
- Implement safety policies and EHS compliance at all sites.
- Conduct inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
- Ensure zero-accident culture and statutory safety compliance.
6. Commissioning, Testing & Handover
- Supervise testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate grid synchronisation, load testing, and performance validation.
- Ensure timely DISCOM approvals, CEIG inspections, and connectivity.
- Complete project documentation and final handover to client/O&M team.
7. Regulatory, Liaison & Compliance
- Strong understanding of MNRE guidelines, DISCOM policies, and state regulations.
- Coordinate with government authorities for approvals and clearances.
- Manage statutory documentation, net metering, and grid agreements.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting solar projects.
8. Commercial, Contracts & Financial Control
- Support BOQ finalisation, budgeting, and cost optimisation.
- Review EPC contracts, purchase orders, and vendor agreements.
- Control project costs, variation orders, and risk mitigation.
- Ensure commercial closure and profitability of projects.
9. Operations & Performance Oversight
- Oversee transition from EPC to Operations & Maintenance (O&M).
- Review plant performance, generation reports, and PR analysis.
- Ensure warranty management and issue resolution with vendors.
- Support long-term asset performance and reliability.
10. Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and mentor engineering, procurement, and project teams.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, lenders, and internal departments.
- Prepare MIS reports, dashboards, and management reviews.
- Represent the company in technical and commercial discussions.
Required Knowledge & Expertise
- Complete understanding of solar power plant lifecycle.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, BOS, and grid integration.
- Experience in procurement, vendor negotiation, and contract management.
- Hands-on exposure to multi-MW solar EPC projects.
- Knowledge of solar software/tools (AutoCAD, PVsyst, SCADA platforms).
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- B.Tech / BE in Electrical / Mechanical / Renewable Energy Engineering.
Pay: ₹60,000.00 - ₹125,000.00 per month
