Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Administration
Maintain SQL Server (IaaS SQL Instance, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL DB) and PostgreSQL databases.
Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, and migrations.
Manage database provisioning and overall environment setup.
Analyze and optimize slow-running queries and execution plans.
Design, implement, and maintain effective indexing strategies.
Resolve complex performance bottlenecks, blocking issues, and deadlocks.
Backup, Restore & Disaster Recovery
Design and manage comprehensive backup strategies (Full, Differential, Log).
Perform database restores and precise point-in-time recovery (PITR).
Implement and routinely validate Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies
High Availability (HA)
Configure and manage Always On Availability Groups and Failover Clustering.
Monitoring & Automation
Security & Compliance
Access Control: Manage database security protocols, including logins, roles, and granular permissions.
Data Protection: Implement robust encryption and comprehensive auditing policies.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, or related fields.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Skills
10+ years of relevant experience in high volume transactional and reporting databases.
Minimum experience of 2-3 years in any cloud environment.
SQL Server database upgrade and migration experience is highly desired
Experience in Production support, Project Support is must.
Experience in using tools such as (Commvault, Avamar, Spotlight, Any ticketing tools)
Experience in any DevOps CI/CD and configuration management tools like GitHub, Jenkins etc. is preferred
Microsoft certification a plus
Change management skills and ability to operate effectively in fast paced environment.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills
The role involves advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning, cloud database management, and ensuring high availability and disaster recovery for production environments.
