Linux Build Engineer (Embedded Linux) – ZEISS

About the Role
ZEISS is looking for a skilled Linux Build Engineer to design, integrate, and maintain Linux build and release infrastructure. You will work on Linux platform enablement, CI/CD automation, and image delivery for enterprise/data-center-class systems, while aligning with upstream open-source best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Linux OS images using Yocto, Buildroot, CMake, and Makefiles.
- Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and release workflows.
- Drive Linux distribution integration and platform scalability.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across kernel, userspace, and firmware.
- Support Linux hardening, performance tuning, and kernel configuration.
- Manage packaging, deployment, release, and installation documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams, distribution partners, and upstream communities.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Yocto/Buildroot, Makefiles, and Linux build systems.
- Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python.
- Experience with Git/GitHub and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI).
- Good knowledge of Linux user/file system administration and debugging.
- Experience in release management and Docker-based build environments.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Good to Have
- Debian/RPM packaging, SBOM, and secure build/signing.
- Exposure to ACPI, UEFI, kconfig, and BSP/platform enablement.
- Experience with QEMU/KVM, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Contributions to upstream Linux kernel/userspace projects.
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in software build engineering, release, and deployment.
