Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Sub-Editor to write, review, edit, and prepare news stories for online publication. The ideal candidate will have strong language skills, excellent news judgment, and the ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
Write, edit news reports, feature articles, and opinion pieces for grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and accuracy.
Rewrite headlines, captions, and summaries to improve clarity and reader engagement.
Verify facts, names, dates, statistics, and other information before publication.
Ensure content complies with the FPJ newspaper's editorial policies and style guidelines.
Coordinate with reporters, correspondents, photographers, social media team and editors to resolve content issues.
Select and arrange stories for publication according to editorial priorities.
Write compelling headlines, subheadings, and photo captions.
Proofread pages before printing or digital publication.
Monitor breaking news from TV news channels, social media and assist in updating stories as needed.
Maintain consistency in tone, style, and formatting of FPJ across all content.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 2-5 years of experience and preference will be given to Mumbai-based candidates
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a related field.
Proven experience in editing, journalism, or newspaper publishing (preferred).
Excellent command of written and spoken English (knowledge of additional languages is an advantage).
Strong understanding of news writing, media ethics, and editorial standards.
Familiarity with newsroom software, content management systems (CMS), and digital publishing tools.
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
