- MD/MHA/MBA (Hospital Administration) preferred
- Registration with State Medical Council/NMC
- Minimum 5 years of experience in hospital administration, preferably in a NABH-accredited hospital
Purpose of the Position
The Deputy Medical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of all IPD services, ensuring smooth patient care, effective coordination among departments, compliance with NABH standards, proper documentation, patient safety, quality improvement, and efficient utilization of hospital resources.
Key Responsibilities1. IPD Operations Management
- Supervise the overall functioning of all inpatient wards, ICU, HDU, and specialty units.
- Ensure smooth admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Monitor patient flow to minimize delays and optimize bed utilization.
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing services, and support departments for seamless patient care.
- Conduct daily rounds of inpatient areas to identify operational issues and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure timely bed allocation and occupancy management.
2. Clinical Coordination
- Coordinate with consultants regarding patient care and clinical documentation.
- Ensure timely specialist consultations.
- Monitor implementation of consultants' treatment plans.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary patient care meetings.
- Resolve clinical coordination issues promptly.
3. Documentation & Medical Records
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation in patient medical records.
- Monitor documentation compliance as per NABH and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with MRD for timely completion of discharge summaries.
- Ensure proper maintenance of consent forms, progress notes, nursing records, operative notes, medication charts, and investigation reports.
- Conduct regular documentation audits.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient records.
4. NABH & Quality Compliance
- Ensure implementation of NABH standards in all IPD areas.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Monitor quality indicators related to inpatient care.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, SOPs, and protocols.
- Participate in internal and external quality assessments.
- Monitor implementation of CAPA following audits and incidents.
5. Patient Safety
- Promote a culture of patient safety throughout the hospital.
- Monitor adverse events, medication errors, falls, pressure injuries, and sentinel events.
- Ensure reporting and investigation of incidents.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor infection prevention and control practices.
6. Discharge Management
- Ensure timely preparation of discharge summaries.
- Monitor discharge TAT.
- Coordinate with billing, pharmacy, nursing, and MRD for smooth discharge.
- Address discharge delays and implement process improvements.
7. Coordination with Hospital Departments

8. Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare daily IPD census reports.
- Monitor bed occupancy statistics.
- Ensure adequate manpower deployment.
- Participate in hospital committees.
- Supervise implementation of hospital policies.
- Handle patient complaints related to inpatient services.
- Maintain discipline among clinical and support staff.
9. Infection Prevention & Control
- Ensure adherence to infection control practices.
- Monitor isolation protocols.
- Coordinate with Infection Control Team.
- Ensure compliance with hand hygiene and biomedical waste management practices.
10. Emergency & Disaster Management
- Coordinate inpatient services during emergencies.
- Participate in disaster preparedness drills.
- Ensure readiness of inpatient areas during mass casualty situations.
11. Training & Staff Development
- Conduct orientation programs for new staff.
- Organize regular clinical and administrative training.
- Monitor competency assessments.
- Encourage continuous quality improvement activities.
12. Quality Indicators Monitoring

14. Statutory & Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Clinical Establishment requirements.
- Maintain medico-legal documentation.
- Coordinate medico-legal cases with concerned departments.
- Ensure compliance with biomedical waste rules, fire safety, and patient rights.
15. Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise ward operations and administrative staff.
- Guide nursing supervisors and departmental coordinators.
- Resolve interdepartmental operational issues.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication.
- Participate in strategic planning for hospital services.
Authority
The Deputy Medical Superintendent is authorized to:
- Monitor and supervise all IPD operations.
- Conduct operational rounds and documentation audits.
- Recommend corrective and disciplinary actions.
- Coordinate manpower deployment during emergencies.
- Implement approved hospital policies and SOPs.
- Escalate significant clinical, administrative, or patient safety issues to the Medical Superintendent/Medical Director.

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
