About the Role:
As an Assistant Editor within a global editorial team, you will play a key role in managing the peer review process and supporting editorial decision-making from submission through to publication. You will work closely with authors, reviewers, and researchers across the globe, ensuring high standards of scientific integrity and communication.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your subject matter expertise in photonics or related fields within a dynamic scientific publishing environment while collaborating with international stakeholders.
How you will make an impact
- Manage the peer review workflow from manuscript submission through to editorial decisions
- Evaluate and triage submissions to determine suitability and next steps
- Identify and select appropriate reviewers and manage reviewer communications
- Assess reviewer feedback and revised manuscripts to support final editorial decisions
- Communicate effectively with authors, reviewers, and researchers globally
- Support manuscript transfers across relevant journals when required
- Contribute to cross-functional process improvement initiatives
- Support strategic content acquisition and development
What we are looking for
- PhD in optics, photonics, physics, or a closely related field with experience in one or more of the areas (bio-)photonics, optoelectronic devices, theoretical physics/chemistry, spintronics, metamaterials, electromagnetic (including microwave) shielding, fiber optics
- Strong interest in scientific publishing and research communication
- Familiarity with the peer review process (as an author and/or reviewer)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Critical thinking and decision-making ability
- Ability to communicate diplomatically in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Previous experience with a manuscript handling system (e.g., Editorial Manager, Scholar One or Research Exchange) and postdoctoral experience would be advantageous
